“10 Stories Stay”.
Stay simple, experience more.
Make room for the journey. Simple stays in Matsumoto, Oze and Yuzawa Uonuma give you the freedom to explore Japan at your own pace.
10 Stories Stay is primarily members’ accommodation, and visitors are welcome too. You do not need a paid monthly membership for a visitor stay.
If you have already registered your guest information through Booking.com or another booking site, you do not need to register again on this website. The reservation must contain the details of the people who will actually stay.
Only the registered member or lead guest and the companions on the reservation may stay. Reservations cannot be transferred or resold. Someone arriving in the registered guest’s place cannot enter, including late at night.
Our stays are primarily self-service, but they are not entirely unstaffed. Please do not assume that hotel-style, in-person front-desk service is always available. Read the check-in and entry instructions before you arrive.

Take your bath bucket to a local hot spring.
Discover the neighbourhood from within.
We turned the former staff accommodation of Koyanagi, the inn that became Matsumoto Jujo, into a small stay for independent travellers. Sharing its building with the Kiri-no-Yu communal bath, it has the easy-going, slightly retro charm of an old Japanese hot-spring town. Almost all rooms are for solo travellers, with a toilet and washbasin; selected rooms also have a shower.
Guests can use the residents’ Masago-no-Yu communal bath and Matsumoto Jujo’s Koyanagi-no-Yu at no charge. Pick up a bath bucket. Your new neighbourhood routine starts here.
Between baths, explore old-fashioned eateries, little bars, Tegamisha Fubako’s shop and café, and LDK bakery. In winter, Hakuba’s ski areas are about 90 minutes away by car, depending on your destination and road conditions. Allow longer in snow. Ski, eat, soak, repeat? We could get used to that.

Find your own rhythm at the mountain retreat
once frequented by writer Takeshi Kaiko.
Takeshi Kaiko, a much-loved Japanese novelist and winner of the Akutagawa literary prize, travelled the world with a fishing rod. Here in Ginzan-daira, beside Lake Okutadami, he found a mountain refuge worth staying in for three months. We can see why.
Our stay grew out of Murasugi, the lodge he loved. The original lamp-lit hut was later rebuilt, and Jiyujin took over in 2018. Today there are comfortable rooms, a shared lounge and kitchen, and separate men’s and women’s hot-spring baths. You can get away from it all without getting away from hot water.
There are three single rooms and three twin rooms, all with a toilet and washbasin. Check in at neighbouring Oze Jujo. Its shuttle is not available to Stay guests; please arrive by car. The property closes for winter.

Hot springs, saunas and time to reset.
A base for a more creative journey.
Art in the rice fields, skis in the snow, and a hot spring to come home to. Yuzawa Uonuma makes a rewarding base for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale and winter adventures.
It also shares a building with the headquarters and editorial team of Jiyujin, the company behind our stays, which began as a magazine publisher. Yes, this is someone’s office. It may spoil your idea of a normal workplace.
