Take the Joetsu Line for three stops, about 13 minutes, from the Shinkansen station at Echigo-Yuzawa to Joetsu Kokusai Ski-jo-mae. Stay Yuzawa Uonuma is a little over ten minutes away on foot. You can enjoy the hot springs and saunas without a car, and take a train to Muikamachi or Yuzawa for dinner without needing to drive afterwards. It is a surprisingly convenient location.
