The new 10 Stories Stay properties have shared kitchens, but cooking for yourself is not the premise of a stay. A contradiction? Not really. The kitchens were made for people who care about their everyday meals, have allergies or dietary restrictions, or cannot eat out for religious reasons.
Of course, we also welcome cooking with local produce. There are roadside markets nearby. Make something quick and delicious, and enjoy the small pleasure of good everyday food.
Around Uonuma and Matsumoto, there are many excellent places to eat, from tasting-menu restaurants to izakaya and ramen shops. For breakfast in Uonuma, the rice-ball shop Farm Front Seki Noen offers a wonderful start from 9:30. Encouraging guests to use local businesses is why we do not serve meals ourselves. The shared kitchen is not intended simply as a way to buy instant noodles at a convenience store and spend as little as possible.
The photograph shows Uonuma’s shared kitchen.
To be continued.
