Rooms

Enjoy the area without a car!

Hot springs, good food and a little room to breathe: spend three days and two nights in Uonuma, a celebrated rice-growing region. The station is about ten minutes away on foot in normal conditions, so a car is not essential for a stay. For the widely scattered Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale works, plan onward buses, an organised tour or a car as well as your trains. Getting pleasantly sidetracked is part of a holiday; missing the last bus is less fun.

Plan your stay

day 1

  • 14:00

Echigo-Yuzawa Station and its hot-spring town
Entry starts at 16:00 and check-in is from 16:00 to 21:00 (Japan Standard Time). Check-in after 21:00 is generally not permitted.
You cannot enter before 16:00, and luggage storage is not available.
If you arrive early, wait around Echigo-Yuzawa Station, which has a waiting room, shops and restaurants, and pick up any ingredients before continuing. Do not go early to Joetsu-Kokusai-Ski-jo-mae Station to wait: it has no station building, shops or cafés.
  • 16:25

    Checking in
For this sample itinerary, take the Joetsu Line from Echigo-Yuzawa to Joetsu-Kokusai-Ski-jo-mae Station. Check the current train timetable when planning your trip.
The walk to the property takes about 10 minutes in normal conditions, but winter snow and road snow-melting water can make it very slushy and difficult with a suitcase. Allow extra time. There is no taxi rank at the local station; take a taxi from Echigo-Yuzawa Station if needed.
Self-check-in includes a live video call and a passport identity check. The named lead guest must stay; a substitute cannot check in. Check-in is from 16:00 to 21:00 (Japan Standard Time); check-in after 21:00 is generally not permitted. If attending Nagaoka Fireworks or Fuji Rock, complete check-in before going to the event. Read the property page’s full arrival information before arranging your trip.
  • 17:00

    Rice fields and mountains
    Rich spring water!
Enjoy the main baths and saunas,
and unwind with views of the rice fields and mountains.
  • 18:30

    The shared kitchen
Prepare dinner in the shared kitchen.
Afterwards, compare the sake you picked up at the liquor shop.
  • 23:00

    Bathing during your stay
Before bed, soak in your room’s bath.
It has freely flowing source water too.
The Sealy bed makes for a wonderfully comfortable night.

day 2

  • 7:00

    A walk around the area
Let the peaceful rice-field scenery soothe you.
Try local rice at the rice-ball shop Uonuma Kuratomo Noen,
which is a 45-minute walk away
    and opens at 9:00.
  • 10:00

    A kimono experience and cafés
Take a leisurely walk of just over 20 minutes to Shiozawa Bokushi-dori. Explore the street and pause at OHGIYA CAFE.
  • 14:00

    A wood-fired sauna experience
A mist sauna this comfortable is a first!
    A sauna-design specialist recreated
an experience the owner discovered in Estonia.
  • 16:00

    Working in the lounge
Get some focused work done in the lounge.
With a good selection of complimentary drinks,
it is easy to settle in for a while.
  • 18:30

At a local izakaya near the station
    There are several restaurants nearby,
but tonight take the train to Muikamachi
for a local izakaya and bar near the station.

day 3

  • 8:00

    One last hot-spring bath
A morning bath feels wonderful, especially in such a spacious outdoor bath.
    It is hard to leave.
Imagine soaking here while watching the snow.
  • 10:00

    Checking out
    Time to check out.
In winter, taxis are limited and snowfall can make them difficult to arrange. Plan your transport in advance and leave plenty of time between check-out and your Shinkansen departure. Do not rely on a taxi being available immediately.
If your travel schedule allows, round off the trip with soba at Shinbashi, about a ten-minute walk from Echigo-Yuzawa Station.
